Before you start

This article is for independent tutors and center owners using CLASSQR for the first time. You'll need an email address and about 10 minutes. No credit card, no software to install — everything runs in the browser. By the end you'll have your own center, one class with a schedule, students checking in with a QR code, and everything ready for your first session.

Students and parents don't follow this article. Students join a class through a link or QR code the teacher shares; parents receive reports by email.

Step 1: Create an account

  1. Open the homepage and click Start teaching, then choose Sign up. You can also sign in with Google to skip the form.
  2. Enter your email, password, and name, plus the confirmation code. Your email is used to sign in and to receive notifications (center invitations, receipts, plan renewal reminders).
  3. Agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. After signing up you land on the My Centers page.

Step 2: Create your center

A center (a tutoring center, school, or a single teacher's classroom) is the private space holding your classes, students, tests, and tuition. Each center gets its own address like your-center.classqr.com; students learn there, while you manage things from both the shared portal and your center's own address.

  1. Click Create my center on the My Centers page.
  2. Enter a Center name and Center path (a short slug, e.g. brightpath → brightpath.classqr.com). You can change the path later, but any link you've already shared with students will change with it.
  3. Check the box agreeing to the Terms for Education Centers. These terms make clear the center controls student data and ClassQR processes it on the center's behalf.
  4. Click Create center. New centers get a 14-day free trial of Pro (once per account owner), and you're switched to your center's address, on the Settings page.

The Settings page has seven tabs: General (name, path, short name, logo, address, contact), Members, Grade levels & subjects, Parent messaging channels, Roles & permissions, Enrollment page, and Plan. For now just fill in General and pick the grade levels & subjects you teach; the rest can wait — see Center Solutions.

Step 3: Create your first class

  1. Left menu → Classes → Add new.
  2. Choose a grade level and subject. These two fields drive the question bank filters and AI suggestions later on.
  3. Fill in the class details: class name; an online meeting link if you teach over video call; turn on Allow self-enrollment by link/QR so students can join on their own; delivery mode; tuition billing method (per course, monthly, per session) and amount; whether missed sessions are billed. Click Save.

A class page has the tabs Feed · Content · Students · Sessions · Results · Messages. The gear icon in the corner reopens the class settings.

Step 4: Invite students

Open the Students tab. There are three ways to add students — pick whichever matches what you have on hand:

MethodWhen to use itHow
Invite link / QR codeLarger classes, students have a phoneClick Invite link: a QR code and link appear; copy the link, download the QR image, or Download poster to print for the classroom. Students scan it, sign up (or sign in), and land in the class. Click Reset link to invalidate the old one.
Import from ExcelYou already have a rosterImport from Excel → download the template → fill it in → upload. The system creates accounts and issues a student ID; the initial password is the student ID, changed at first sign-in.
Add by emailA few students already have accountsAdd students by email, then paste a list of email addresses.

Click a student to open their profile: contact info, parent details (name, phone, email, primary contact), enrolled classes, attendance, homework, tests, and merit points. Add the parent's email early so weekly reports and tuition reminders can reach them.

Step 5: Schedule sessions

Sessions → Schedule → Recurring schedule: pick the day of week, start time, end time, start date, end date, and room, then Generate sessions. The system creates every session for the term; each one can be edited on its own (date, title, meeting link) and has a status of Scheduled · Held · Canceled. A session is the unit used for attendance, grading, and per-session tuition.

Step 6: Teach your first session

  • Build the content in the Content tab: add a session, upload slides, create a quiz. See Interactive Lessons.
  • Take attendance and grade in Sessions → Teach, then send a session report to parents. See QR Attendance.
  • Generate a test with AI in a few minutes. See AI Test Generation.
  • Set up tuition so invoices are created automatically at the end of the month. See Tuition & Weekly Reports.

Invite colleagues and assign roles

Settings → Members: enter an email, choose a role, send the invite. The invited person gets an email and an Invitations item in their account. Five roles are available; permissions for each are fine-tuned in the Roles & permissions tab:

RoleTypically used for
OwnerThe person who created the center: full access, purchases plans, changes the domain, transfers ownership
ManagerDay-to-day operations: every class, student, and report
TeacherTeaches assigned classes: content, attendance, grading, parent reports
RegistrarStudent profiles, scheduling, enrollment, follow-up
CashierTuition, invoices, cash ledger

The Free plan allows up to 2 users, 3 classes, and 30 active students; Standard and Pro remove the class and member limits. Full pricing is on the homepage.

Frequently asked questions

I tutor on my own — do I still need to create a center?

Yes, but it only takes a minute. A center is the private space that holds your classes, students, and data; even solo tutors set one up under their own name. The Free plan covers up to 30 students and 3 classes.

Where do students sign in?

At your center's own address, like your-center.classqr.com. Class invite links and QR codes already point there, so students just tap or scan. Anyone without an account yet is prompted to sign up and dropped straight into the class.

Can I import a student list from Excel?

Yes. Open the Students tab of a class and use Import from Excel; download the template, fill in name, date of birth, and a parent phone number, then upload it. The system issues a student ID and account for each row.

Do I lose data when the 14-day trial ends?

No. The center drops to the Free plan and every record stays; only paid-plan features pause, and you can't add students past 30. You can upgrade anytime.

What if several teachers share the center?

The owner invites colleagues from the Members tab by email and assigns a role: Manager, Teacher, Registrar, or Cashier. Invited teachers only see the classes they're assigned to.
